Wednesday, October 28, 2026 gives you two market events about two and a half hours apart. The Federal Reserve announces its rate decision at 2:00 p.m. ET. Then Alphabet reports Q3 2026 earnings after the US close, and holds its conference call at 4:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. PT). By the time Google’s numbers come out, the stock may already have reacted to the Fed.
The release covers July to September. The question it has to answer is the one that sank the stock in July: can Google Cloud grow fast enough to pay for capital spending of up to $205 billion this year?
Next Alphabet earnings date
Alphabet confirmed the date in an investor-relations announcement on October 6, 2026. Some data aggregators still show a tentative October 27. That date is wrong.

Alphabet earnings calendar: past and upcoming dates
Alphabet does not report a fixed number of days after quarter-end. July’s report came 22 days after the quarter closed, April’s 29 days after, and February’s in the first week of the month. Every report in the past year, though, fell on a Wednesday.
| Quarter | Report date | Revenue | Diluted EPS | Stock reaction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q3 2025 | Wed, Oct 29, 2025 | $102.3bn (first $100bn quarter) | $2.87 | About +5% after hours |
| Q4 2025 | Wed, Feb 4, 2026 | $113.8bn, +18% | $2.82 | Fell 4% early on Feb 5, closed −0.5% |
| Q1 2026 | Wed, Apr 29, 2026 | $109.9bn, +22% | $5.11 (incl. investment gains) | Closed +10% on Apr 30 |
| Q2 2026 | Wed, Jul 22, 2026 | $119.8bn, +24% | $9.11 ($2.85 excl. gains) | Closed −7.1% on Jul 23 |
| Q3 2026 | Wed, Oct 28, 2026 (confirmed) | Due | Due | |
| Q4 2026 | Not announced | Last year’s Q4 report came on February 4; the Q3 2026 date was announced 22 days in advance | ||
Revenue and EPS come from Alphabet’s 8-K earnings releases on SEC EDGAR. The Q4 2025, Q1 2026 and Q2 2026 reactions are regular-session closes from Motley Fool market recaps (February 5, April 30); the Q3 2025 figure is the after-hours move reported by Zacks.
Why Alphabet’s EPS needs a second look
Look at the EPS column in the calendar and you would think profit tripled in a year. It didn’t. Alphabet holds stakes in private companies, and when those stakes are marked up, the unrealised gain goes through other income and into net income.
In Q2 2026 the net gain was $98bn. Alphabet’s release says the gain on equity securities added $6.26 to diluted EPS, so the operating figure was about $2.85 against the reported $9.11. SiliconANGLE put the analyst estimate at $2.89, which makes it a small miss. In Q1 the net gain was $37.7bn. Coverage of Q2 attributed most of the gain to the stakes in SpaceX and Anthropic.
This works in both directions. A markdown of the same stakes would cut GAAP EPS just as hard. So when the release comes out, check the other-income line before you react to the EPS headline. The consensus figures quoted below exclude these gains.
Q3 2026 consensus: what Wall Street expects
Alphabet gives no revenue or EPS guidance, so there is no company number to compare against. The benchmark is the analyst consensus, and providers differ a little:
| Source (date) | EPS | Revenue |
|---|---|---|
| MarketBeat (Oct 20, 2026) | $3.02 | $127.82bn |
| Investing.com (Oct 16, 2026) | $3.04 | $127.35bn |
| Q3 2025 actual, for comparison | $2.87 | $102.35bn |
About $127.5bn would mean growth of roughly 25% on a year earlier, a little faster than Q2’s 24%. Investing.com notes the EPS consensus slipped 2.1% over the 30 days to October 16 while revenue estimates rose 3% over 90 days. Analysts expect more sales and thinner margins, which fits Alphabet’s warning in February that depreciation would rise meaningfully in 2026.
What could move Alphabet stock on October 28
Capex and free cash flow
This is the main number. Alphabet spent $91.4bn on property and equipment in 2025. In February it guided 2026 capex to $175bn to $185bn. April raised that to $180bn to $190bn, and July raised it again to $195bn to $205bn, with management saying 2027 spending would increase significantly.
Q2 capex was $44.9bn, double the $22.4bn of a year earlier, and free cash flow turned negative at −$5.9bn. Alphabet’s own release shows the slide: free cash flow of $24.5bn in Q3 2025, $24.6bn in Q4, $10.1bn in Q1 2026 and then the negative Q2. CFO Anat Ashkenazi told analysts free cash flow would “remain under pressure”, according to Hargreaves Lansdown.
A fourth raise to the 2026 range, or a hard 2027 number, would probably matter more to the share price than any revenue beat.
Google Cloud growth and backlog
Cloud is the argument management makes for the spending. Revenue grew 48% in Q4 2025, 63% in Q1 2026 and 82% in Q2 to $24.8bn, with segment operating income of $8.8bn. Backlog was about $514bn at the end of June, according to the Q2 call. Since July the stock has traded on whether that acceleration lasts. A slowdown in Cloud growth alongside more capex would be the worst combination for the stock.
Search and YouTube
Google Search & other brought in $63.3bn in Q2, up 17%, so AI answers have not hurt the core business yet. YouTube ads rose 13% to $11.1bn, and the Q2 release highlighted 1.7 billion viewers of World Cup videos. The tournament ended in July, so a slower YouTube figure in Q3 would not on its own be a warning sign.
Dilution and the balance sheet
For years Alphabet spent billions every quarter on buybacks. In Q2 2026 it spent nothing. In June it raised $49.6bn of net proceeds from new Class A and Class C stock and mandatory convertible preferred shares, set up an at-the-market programme for up to $40bn more, and issued $20.3bn of notes. Share count, any ATM sales and debt are now part of the earnings story.
Antitrust
On September 2, 2026, Judge Leonie Brinkema rejected the Justice Department’s request to force a sale of Google’s AdX ad exchange and ordered behavioural remedies instead. The separate search case is on appeal. Analysts may ask about both on the call, but neither has a ruling due on October 28.
How Alphabet stock reacts to earnings
Over the past four reports the next-day close ranged from about −7% to +10%, and the direction followed capex and Cloud more than EPS. In Q4 2025 Alphabet beat estimates, but the stock fell 4% early on a capex plan nearly double 2025’s, then recovered to close almost flat. In Q1 2026, 63% Cloud growth outweighed another capex raise and the stock closed up about 10%. In Q2, 82% Cloud growth could not offset the third raise and negative free cash flow, and GOOGL closed 7.1% lower at $317.69.
For Q3, options pricing points to a similar range. Trader Central estimated on October 18 that the front-week at-the-money straddle implied a move of about 6.2% either way. By the same data, July’s priced move was about 5.9% and the stock fell more than that, and Alphabet’s actual move has beaten the implied one in roughly 62% of recent reports. Those are third-party estimates and they change daily.
The stock goes into the report with no clear trend. On October 16, Investing.com put GOOGL at $341.21, almost exactly on its 200-day average of $340.91 and about 16% below the 52-week high of $408.61.
How to prepare for Alphabet earnings
- Put both times in your own time zone: the Fed at 2:00 p.m. ET and Alphabet after 4:00 p.m. ET. The Fed decision can move tech stocks before Alphabet publishes anything.
- Read the release in this order: capex and free cash flow, then Cloud revenue and operating income, then Search and YouTube, then EPS with the equity gain stripped out. The guide to reading an earnings report covers the general method.
- Listen to the call for any change to the 2026 capex range or a first 2027 figure. In July, after-hours trading slid further once the call turned to spending.
- Expect wide spreads and gaps. After-hours liquidity is thin, and the regular session opens on October 29 at a new price. Stop orders can fill well past their level. The earnings trading strategies page explains how to plan around this.
- Check what else reports that week. Meta reports on October 21, and several other mega-caps report in the same two weeks. With Alphabet’s market value around $4.2tn, it carries a large weight in the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500, and the effect of earnings season on indices shows how one report can move both.
For the full Q3 calendar, see the earnings season guide and the Meta earnings date page from the same week.

What time does Google release earnings?

What are analysts expecting for Alphabet's Q3 2026 earnings?
Consensus in mid-October 2026 was about $3.02 to $3.04 of EPS on revenue of roughly $127.4bn to $127.8bn, according to MarketBeat and Investing.com. Alphabet does not issue revenue or EPS guidance, so the consensus is the benchmark.
Why was Alphabet's Q2 2026 EPS so high?
Reported EPS of $9.11 included a $98bn net gain, mostly unrealized gains on equity stakes. Alphabet said the gain added $6.26 per share, so EPS excluding it was about $2.85, slightly below the roughly $2.89 analysts expected.
How did Alphabet stock react to its last earnings report?
After the Q2 2026 report on July 22, GOOGL closed 7.1% lower the next day at $317.69, as Alphabet raised its 2026 capex guidance to $195bn to $205bn and free cash flow turned negative, even though Google Cloud revenue grew 82%.
