Tesla Earnings Date and Call: Times, Consensus and Stock Reaction

Tesla reports Q3 2026 earnings on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, after the US market close, and hosts its earnings call as a live webcast at 5:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. CT).

The setup is odd. Tesla delivered 486,532 cars in the quarter, about 25,000 more than the consensus it compiled from analysts, yet Wall Street expects earnings per share to fall 14% from a year earlier. What the report has to explain is profit per car.

Tesla confirmed the schedule in its Q3 production and deliveries release on October 2, 2026.

How the Tesla earnings call works

The numbers come first. Tesla posts a quarterly update deck with financial statements, operating data and a short outlook section, and the first after-hours reaction runs on that document alone. About 90 minutes after the close, Elon Musk and the leadership team take questions on the webcast.

Part of the Q&A comes from retail shareholders. Tesla collects questions on the Say platform, ranked by the number of shares behind each one rather than by vote count, and submissions close at 4:00 p.m. ET on October 20, according to TeslaNorth. The most-supported question this quarter asks how the Cybercab fleet will scale beyond Austin. Sell-side analysts get their turn after that.

Tesla earnings calendar

Tesla publishes three to four weeks after each quarter ends, in recent quarters on a Wednesday after the bell. A few weeks before that, usually on the second day of the new quarter, it releases production and delivery figures, so part of the picture is public before the earnings date.

What analysts expect from Tesla Q3 2026 earnings

The consensus below is the Zacks estimate as of October 14. Year-ago figures are derived from the same source.

Metric Q3 2026 consensus Q3 2025 Change
Revenue $27.79bn About $28.1bn −1.1%
Adjusted EPS $0.43 About $0.50 −14%

The EPS estimate fell 3 cents over the 30 days before the report, according to a separate Zacks preview. Other providers put revenue slightly higher, around $27.9bn, so expect small differences depending on where you look.

The last report set a low bar

Q2 2026 is the reason expectations are modest. According to Tesla’s Q2 2026 update:

  • Revenue hit a record $28.2bn, up 26% year on year.
  • Adjusted EPS was $0.33, well short of the roughly $0.50 analysts expected.
  • Operating margin fell to 1.4%.
  • Capital expenditure reached $5.8bn and free cash flow was negative $1.1bn.

Shares fell about 14.5% the next day, Teslarati reported, erasing more than $140bn in market value.

The numbers already known: deliveries and energy

Tesla’s October 2 release covers volume. Comparisons below are from Not a Tesla App.

Metric Q3 2026 vs. consensus vs. Q3 2025
Deliveries 486,532 +5.3% (461,974 expected) −2.1% (497,099)
Production 464,391 n/a n/a
Energy storage deployed 13.7 GWh −13.8% (15.9 GWh expected) +9.6% (12.5 GWh)

Two details matter for the earnings print. Tesla delivered about 22,000 more cars than it built, so inventory came down. And energy storage deployments came in below forecasts. Volume alone does not tell you what Tesla earned on each car; that is the question October 21 answers.

What could move Tesla stock after the report

Goldman Sachs said in October that Tesla’s updates on Full Self-Driving, robotaxi and Optimus are “likely to matter more to the stock than earnings per share,” Benzinga reported. The table sets out where each thread stood after Q2.

Topic Last data point (Q2 2026) What to listen for
Automotive margin 16.3% excluding regulatory credits, down from 19.2% in Q1 Whether it stabilises with higher volume
Capex and cash $5.8bn capex, negative $1.1bn free cash flow, $43.5bn in cash and investments Whether 2026 capex stays above $25bn
Robotaxi Unsupervised service live in 7 US metros New cities and regulatory approvals
Cybercab Production started at Giga Texas; limited service in Austin Volume targets and expansion beyond Texas
FSD 1.48 million active subscriptions Subscription growth and unsupervised FSD in customer cars
Optimus, Semi, Megapack 3 Production lines being installed; production planned for 2026 Whether the 2026 dates still hold

Regulatory credits are worth a separate look. They brought in $146 million in Q2, down from $439 million a year earlier, according to Zacks. That income goes almost straight to profit, so a further drop weighs on margins even if car sales hold up.

How Tesla stock reacts to earnings

The Tesla share price was near $367 on October 14. Options data compiled by Bloomberg, cited by Investing.com, implies a 5.1% move in either direction after the report.

That number is an average expectation, not a limit. Two recent reactions broke well past it:

  • October 2024: Tesla rose about 22% the day after Q3 2024 results, its best session in more than a decade, per Zacks.
  • July 2026: it fell about 14.5% after the Q2 2026 miss.

Analysts are split on where the stock goes from here. Benzinga puts the average price target at $412, with Jefferies at Hold ($400), UBS at Neutral ($391) and Tigress Financial at Buy ($550).

Trading Tesla around the earnings date

Results land after the close, so the first reaction happens in thin after-hours trading and the stock can open on October 22 far from where it closed. A stop loss does not cap the loss on a gap: it fills at the first price available. If you hold a position into the report, size it as if the full implied move, or more, could go against you.

The deck and the call can also pull in opposite directions. A weak margin in the update can be followed by a product timeline on the webcast that changes the after-hours move, so the first price is not always the last word.

Tesla is a member of the Nasdaq 100, so a big swing shows up in the Nasdaq price as well. Tesla also reports the day after Netflix, which makes October 20 to 22 a busy stretch for US tech.
