Blockchain.com launched call and put options on seven cryptoassets on Oct. 20, with contracts funded upfront in USDC through its Trading Account. The product extends the exchange's derivatives offering.
Eligible users can buy options on Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), Hyperliquid (HYPE), Avalanche (AVAX), XRP and TRON (TRX), with expiries initially running up to one week.
Buyers cannot exit before expiry
A buyer's maximum trading loss is the premium plus the upfront fee, according to the company's support documentation. However, buyers cannot sell or close positions before expiry, even if the market moves against them.
The minimum premium is $5, plus applicable fees. Blockchain.com also charges a settlement fee, but only when the gross payout exceeds the premium. The quoted premium includes a spread or mark-up that the platform does not display as a separate fee.
Calls pay out when the settlement price finishes above the contract's strike price, and puts pay out when it finishes below. A contract can generate a payout and still leave the buyer with a loss if the proceeds do not cover the premium and fees.
Access is limited by jurisdiction
The product is unavailable to residents of the U.S., UK, Canada and Japan, as well as France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Malta, among other excluded jurisdictions. Access also depends on account eligibility and verification status.
The launch follows Blockchain.com's April 21 rollout of perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid within its non-custodial DeFi wallet. Those contracts offer leverage without a fixed expiry, while the new options expire on a set date.
Meanwhile, the company filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on October 13 for a Futures Commission Merchant license and a Designated Contract Market registration. The applications have been filed, not approved.
